HOGWIN HOLDS FINANCIAL LITERACY TRAINING, EMPOWERS WIDOWS WITH BUSINESS GRANTS

The Hands of God Widows Support Initiative (HOGWIN) has commenced the Financial Literacy and Business Management Training under its Widows Financial Inclusion (WiFIn) project which was launched in August 2025 to promote economic independence, digital inclusion and financial literacy among underserved widows in Nigeria.

The training marks a significant step in the project’s mission to equip widows with essential financial and business management skills to help grow their petty trades into sustainable enterprises. The program will climax with the empowerment of selected widows, receiving ₦100,000 each in micro business grants to support and expand their small and informal businesses

Phranklin Audu, Executive Director of HOGWIN, emphasized that the WiFIn Project is designed not only to provide financial support but also to foster financial literacy, reduce poverty, bridge gender inequalities, and promote long-term economic inclusion.

“We must have a mind shift from widows’ empowerment to widows’ investment,” said Audu. “An investment in widows yields measurable returns that translate to reduced poverty, improved economic opportunities, and the promotion of gender equality in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”.

The Financial Literacy Training covers topics such as budgeting, savings, bookkeeping, business planning, and digital financial tools, empowering widows to make informed decisions and grow their business sustainably.

HOGWIN expressed deep appreciation to Cashvance Investment Limited for supporting the initiative by funding the ₦100,000 micro grants for five participants. The organization hailed Cashvance’s contribution as a demonstration of corporate social responsibility and a commitment to promoting financial inclusion, supporting vulnerable populations, and fostering shared economic Through this initiative, Cashvance continues to demonstrate leadership in uplifting underserved communities and expanding opportunities for women.

This partnership highlights Cashvance’s dedication to:

·         Supporting women-led microbusinesses.

·         Reducing poverty through targeted financial support.

·         Promoting responsible financial habits.

·         Enhancing economic growth in low-income communities, and

·         Enabling long-term wealth creation through financial education and access to services.

HOGWIN wants other organizations, particularly financial institutions and socially responsible companies—to partner with the WiFIn Project. Such collaborations, the organization says, are critical to reducing the financial exclusion gap and fostering community development.

Over the years, HOGWIN’s interventions have recorded notable impact stories. Several widows have received items like grinding machines, sewing machines, and other business tools that have enabled them to support their households, pay school fees, and gain financial stability. These testimonies reflect HOGWIN’s belief that empowering widows is a strategic investment in families and communities.

The WiFIn project aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) particularly

·         SDG1- No poverty

·         SDG5: Gender equality

·         SDG8: Decent work and economic growth

·         SDG 17: Partnership for the goals

Through initiatives like WiFIn, HOGWIN continues to build pathways for widows to access financial systems, enhance their livelihoods, and become agents of sustainable community development.

According to Mrs. Tokunbo Agboide, a caterer. The cash has come at the right time.
